Equi=tech ET2RSI-F Balanced Power Conditioning System in good condition. This unit has been in service in my studio for a number of years.

Works best on a 20amp circuit breaker but can be used on a 15amp. The case is in very good condition, the unit does have a transformer type hum when under full load. This model is closest to the newer model Son of Q in terms of features.

This is a 12.5A version, with EMI/RFI Filter and Super Isolator (a transformer that is wound with exceptionally low capacitance). Both the RFI and Super Isolator were upgrade options. Skywallker Sound uses balanced power! The Equi=Tech (ET) is an isolation transformer that converts standard AC into balanced power. So what is balanced power?

Thats the same question I had when I first heard about it. Of course the second was, what does it do for me? To explain balanced power I must first make sure we are all on the same sheet of music as to how AC is delivered to our equipment. What comes out of the wall is unbalanced a. Single ended AC (Alternating Current).

It has a hot conductor (120 V) and a neutral conductor (0 V), along with ground. This is the way AC has been delivered since its inception. With balanced power, you get +60 V on one conductor and 60 V on the other conductor, relative to the ground conductor, giving you 120 V total.

Balanced power provides common mode noise rejection to eliminate noise. The ET comes in various flavors. First you must choose what size transformer you want, from 1, 1.5 , 2, 3, 4, and 5 kVA versions. Along with the different size, there is the option of adding the SI, E, EA, and F options. It is a transformer that is wound with exceptionally low capacitance.

I did not have the SI option for my review. At the time of order, you specify how many of the outlets on the back you want filtered. The filter, which is designed primarily for digital components, like CD DACs, rather than analog components, like amplifiers. All are designed to be sacrificed for the sake of protecting your equipment in extreme circumstances that do happen.

So unlike most other products in the marketplace, a useful status indicator light lets you know when your system has taken too many hits from nuisance voltage spikes and the time has come to replace the surge protection unit. Though they typically last for many years, the surge module is easy and inexpensive to replace.

After all it's better to know you have lost surge protection when it happens than to encounter a serious spike and lose your valuable components because of a worn out TVSS that you didn't realize had already taken all it could handle. But that's not all that we provide.

As a redundant line of defense, grounded electrostatic shielding between the power transformer coils shunt dangerous voltage spikes, even huge spikes over several thousand volts for additional protection and piece of mind. Digital Equipment Outlets -- These filtered outlets provide additional high frequency noise attenuation and isolation for switching power supplies found in typical digital electronics. These outlets are designed for use with CD Players, DVD Players, DAT Players, Dish Receivers, Hi Definition Digital Television Receivers, Plasma Displays, automation controllers, computers and other high resolution digital electronics. Unswitched Outlet -- An entire theater, audio system or data processing system can be turned off and on from the front panel by using the front standby switch.

There is nothing that will burn out or degrade from heat over time or from years of rugged use. Some systems you may encounter employ semiconductor devices to drive the outputs or soft-start relays to compensate for a low quality isolation transformer with high inrush current -- not Equi=Tech!

There is simply nothing in our systems to wear out or degrade over time from heavy usage or from heat. Beware of power products listed as "Audio Equipment" to circumvent ANSI/UL Standard #1012 (the power standard) just to get a UL listing label of any kind. You wouldn't want that anymore than you would want beef from the supermarket inspected to dog food standards. Who would want a non-standard or unlisted power product in their workplace or in their home anyway?
